Apple Is Building a Wireless Charging Technology for iPhone

Apple is apparently developing technology that would help you to charge your iPhone and iPad device without plugging it into the power socket on wall. A new report suggests that the wireless charging technology could work over long distances within the environment.

Bloomberg speculated that the “cutting-edge” charging could appear in Apple devices released next year, so that would rule it out of making its way into the upcoming iPhone 7, which is expected to arrive later this year on cue with Apple’s usual launch schedule.

It’s not an easy challenge, for a number of reasons. The technology required to capture enough energy is, for Ossia at least, rather bulky. And as Bloomberg points out, “efficiency of power transfer decreases as the distance between transmitter and receiver grows.” If Apple is trying to build a sleek phone, those two issues create a compounded problem where it’s difficult to charge a battery quickly.
